Hans Kotter will be awarded with the prestigious German Light Art Prize (Deutscher Lichtkunstpreis 2024). The award honors Kotter for his unique interpretation of light as a medium for expanding perception, the Kunstmuseum Celle announced. Awarded every two years by the Robert Simon Art Foundation at the Celle Art Museum, the prize goes to artists and researchers who have made a special contribution to the development and perception of light art, amongst them Otto Piene (2014) 2016 Mischa Kuball (DE), 2018 Brigitte Kowanz (A), 2020 Jan van Munster (NL) und 2022 Prof. Dr. Ulrike Gehring (DE).
The German Light Art Award will be presented to Hans Kotter in January 2024 at a ceremony at the Kunstmuseum Celle, with Prof. Dr. Dirk Boll (Christies International) delivering the laudatory speech.
Founded in 1998 as a 24-hour art museum, it houses one of the most extensive museum collections of contemporary light art in Germany.
